After months of planning and anticipating, the day finally arrived. The day when CYPWO was publicly announcing to Nigeria that we will be dedicating our expertise and time to help combat child abuse in Nigeria. That day had arrived!!
It started as a great day. Everything was set! The website was up and running, the banners were all done and the venue was set. All that remained was to reinforce CYPWO’s motive – ELIMINATE CHILD ABUSE IN NIGERIA.
The City People Issue on the 6th of April highlighted that a 75 yr old sexually abused a 5 year old child! This is one of the many reasons why CYPWO came to being!
The great day later broke out with rain as the program was about to start. Despite the rain, we were honoured by the presence of some distinguished guests. Amongst prominent personalities present were the Honorable Minister of Youth Development (Senator Akinlabi Olasunkanmi), Dr. Ajuwon (Chief Medical Director of National Hospital Abuja), Senator Khairat Gwadabe, Hon Oyedepo Oyedokun and other law enforcers in Nigeria.
CYPWO’s grand launch event showcased a video shot in Akwa Ibom highlighting the gruesome actions taken on alleged child witches. The event also showcased our work with D’mastermind and the wonderful job done with our logo, website and other corporate stationeries. Mr. Mohammed Adamu also gave a presentation on the increasing problem with today’s Youth and Drug and Substance use.
By the end of the event, we had shared our passion with our audience and the press. We had been promised continuous support from some of our guests. We had had 6 desktop computers donated to us for our office and we had raised a huge sum of N3.3million!!!!
We are extremely grateful to our guests, friends and families for all their support and donations and we hope that with the help of the society, we will be able to give abused Nigerian children a tomorrow.
